Advancing Research for Feline PRCA.

Turning Digit’s Fight Into Change.

Digit’s Legacy Foundation is dedicated to advancing research, improving diagnostics, and bringing hope to cats affected by immune-mediated pure red cell aplasia (PRCA). Through collaborative science, data collection, and compassionate support, we strive to ensure that every cat fighting this rare disorder has a chance at a healthier future.

Feline Immune-Mediated Pure Red Cell Aplasia:

A Critical Need for Research

Feline PRCA is a rare and life-threatening autoimmune bone marrow disorder in which the immune system destroys early red blood cell precursors. As a result, red blood cell production collapses, leading to severe, non-regenerative anemia. Despite being a recognized condition, the pathophysiology, triggers, and optimal treatment protocols remain poorly understood in cats.

Digit’s Legacy Foundation was created in honor of Digit, a beloved cat whose battle with immune-mediated pure red cell aplasia (IM-PCRA) illuminated just how under-researched and misunderstood this condition truly is. Most veterinarians will never see a single case in their careers. Most families facing it have nowhere to turn. And almost no scientific data exists to guide treatment or predict outcomes.

Digit changed that for us. His fight showed us the urgent need for better answers — and the incredible impact even small steps can make in rare-disease research.

CTA

Our foundation exists to:

  • Collect and organize IM-PCRA case data

  • Support veterinary researchers studying this rare disorder

  • Raise awareness so cats are diagnosed earlier

  • Provide resources and community for families navigating IM-PCRA

Impact of Funding

Support from this foundation will enable:

  • Multicenter case collection and data standardization

  • Lab-based immunology profiling

  • Clinical trials for safer and more effective treatments

  • Outreach to veterinarians to improve early recognition

  • Development of owner-friendly educational resources
